Famed tonkotsu ramen chain where you customise every detail of your bowl in a private booth for the ultimate solo dining experience.
ICHIRAN is one of Japan's most iconic ramen brands, and its Harajuku outpost draws ramen devotees from across the globe. The restaurant is best known for its rich, creamy tonkotsu broth and a uniquely personal ordering system: you fill in a preference sheet specifying everything from noodle firmness and soup richness to garlic intensity and spice level. The signature 'booth seating' arrangement means each diner enjoys their bowl in a private partition, free from distraction — a concept ICHIRAN calls 'flavour concentration'. If you'd like a refill, simply press a button and another serving of noodles arrives without breaking the flow. It's an experience that feels both meditative and wonderfully indulgent.
The Harajuku branch is handily located just off the main drag and tends to draw long queues, especially at weekends and during evenings, so visiting outside peak hours is wise. Ordering is available in English, and the process is reassuringly straightforward even for first-timers. Cash and card are both accepted.

This was our first meal in Japan and it set the tone. It was delicious. Be prepared to wait. About an hour from the time you start to...

It's not one of the most popular ramen restaurants around for nothing! Food is still banging. Consistent flavour with the customisation sheet.

Ichiran is the real deal, don't skip out. Their menu is simple and flexible; they only serve tonkotsu ramen and give you all the customization options you need to make sure it's exactly how you want it. We came here two days in a row.
