The server showed great patience and kindness as we struggled with our limited Japanese. My spouse and I both ordered the omurice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The combo deal, which included a salad and a beverage, offered excellent value.

Coffee & Cake SHU sits tucked away in the basement of the Onishi Building, offering a quiet retreat from the bustle of Harajuku's main drag. As the name suggests, the focus here is on quality coffee and immaculately presented cakes, with a menu that balances classic espresso drinks with Japanese-inspired patisserie. The cake selection is the real draw, featuring seasonal creations that showcase delicate flavours such as matcha, houjicha and yuzu alongside richer chocolate and fruit options. Each slice is crafted with the precision you would expect from a Japanese pastry kitchen, and the coffee is roasted to complement rather than compete with the sweets. Found on the B1 level, the cafe has an intimate, almost hidden quality that regulars adore. It is a short walk from both Harajuku and Omotesando stations, making it a convenient mid-shopping pit stop. Seating is limited, so visiting outside peak hours is advisable if you want a leisurely sit-down.
