About This Event / イベントについて
The Meiji Jingu Spring Grand Festival is one of the shrine's two most important annual events, spanning five days from April 29 to May 3. Bugaku (ancient court dance) is performed on April 29 at the Shinzen stage, followed by Noh and Kyogen on May 2, and Kyudo, Sankyoku, and Satsuma-biwa on May 3.
Set inside the dense evergreen forest that separates the shrine from the buzz of Harajuku, the festival is a striking contrast to Takeshita Street a few minutes away. The rituals are performed in traditional Heian-period costume. Note: Yabusame (horseback archery) is performed at the Autumn Grand Festival, not the Spring.

Bugaku is on April 29 at 11:00 — arrive early for a good view.
舞楽は4月29日11時。良い場所を確保するため早めに到着しましょう。
The shrine forest is cooler than the city — bring a light layer in spring.
境内の森は都心より涼しいので、春は薄手の上着を。
Combine with a walk through Yoyogi Park afterwards.
