Located just a few minutes from Harajuku Station, this restaurant has a nice interior and is delicious and reasonably priced. The Agu pork shabu-shabu course costs 6,600 yen, plus two drinks and rice balls, for about 8,500 yen per person. It seems like it would be convenient for multiple people, and the clientele seems to be mostly laid-back.
Lunch Kirakira
A friend invited me here because he wanted to eat shabu-shabu, so this was my first time visiting. Although it's close to Harajuku Station and near Takeshita Street, it's located around a narrow alley, so it's not very busy and doesn't stand out, making it a very quiet and relaxed restaurant. There are five tables that seat four. Since there were just the two of us, we were able to sit comfortably at a table for four. The walls are decorated with many paintings, giving it a mature atmosphere. The Matsuba crab course that I was looking forward to was not available, so I ordered Agu pork shabu-shabu. The course we had was 6,600 yen. Assorted appetizers: Soy milk and dried mullet roe, fried burdock root, roasted duck cream cheese canapes, pickled daikon radish. Colorful vegetables: Cauliflower, pea sprouts, several types of mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, green onions, red daikon radish, etc. Agu pork shabu-shabu loin and belly. Specially selected rice balls. Wagashi dessert. While the course was centered around shabu-shabu, we were most surprised by the variety and quantity of vegetables. We wondered if two people could finish it all, but in the end, we had no problem. The fat of the Agu pork was so sweet! Served simply with homemade ponzu sauce, it wasn't heavy at all, and we just kept eating. The vegetables shabu-shabued in the rich broth were exceptional. The cauliflower and tomatoes were quickly softened and delicious. We finished with soup. They seem to serve rice balls for lunch as well, and when I was asked to choose whatever I wanted to finish off my shabu-shabu, I selected mentaiko. It was a soft and fluffy rice ball! I finished off with a gorgeous Japanese sweet shaped like a rose. Drinks start at 800 yen for beer. This time I had a Chita highball for 1000 yen and a white wine for 800 yen. Shabu-shabu is high in water content, so alcohol doesn't go down well with it, so I only had two drinks. It was reasonable at around 8500 yen per person. There were two groups of what appeared to be regulars there that day. It made me realize that if you look hard enough, you can find a restaurant with this kind of relaxed atmosphere in Harajuku!

Our group of middle-aged men ventured into a trendy shabu-shabu restaurant in a back alley of Harajuku, a place highly popular with women! The interior was stylish and sleek, like a cafe, with a hidden-gem atmosphere. The course offered a simple choice between pork shabu-shabu or Japanese Black beef. We chose the pork shabu-shabu. The vegetable platter was visually appealing, and the pork was a mix of pork belly and loin. We finished with freshly made salmon rice balls and elegant Japanese sweets. The table sauces were excellent, and the free refills of green onions and ginger were a welcome bonus. It's easy to see why it's popular with women; the healthy menu was a hit. But the middle-aged men were also very satisfied! Enjoying a hot pot in such a stylish setting was definitely a good experience.

The appetizers were delicious, but the vegetables were the best! The vegetables were amazing! From mushrooms, leafy vegetables, root vegetables, to flowers. The meat was Agu pork, packed with flavorful fat. However, it was a little heavy, so I'd be happy if they added more seasonings and sauces. Apparently they also have a limited-time crab hotpot in the winter. The rice balls at the end were delicious, with fragrant nori seaweed. Pets are allowed inside the restaurant.

A friend took me and we enjoyed the pork shabu-shabu course. The meat presentation was beautiful, but the vegetable presentation was even more amazing...it included so many varieties of mushrooms I'd never seen before, and it really made you feel the season. Of course it was delicious, and even though there were only two of us, we were served about four servings - it was a huge portion! We then finished off with udon noodles in the sparkling golden broth made from the pork and vegetables. Actually, their famous onigiri were also delicious. After that, we even made rice porridge with the leftover broth, and it was perfectly delicious all the way to the end! It seems like they're mainly catering to acquaintances and don't often bring new people in, but you can actually make a reservation at Ichigen. Just drop in. I was very satisfied and will come again!
