About This Event / イベントについて
Meiji Jingu is Japan's most popular shrine for hatsumode — the first shrine visit of the New Year. Over January 1–3, roughly three million people pass through the torii gates to pray for good fortune in the year ahead.
The shrine is open overnight from December 31 through January 1 (closing at 18:30). January 2–3 hours are 6:40–18:00. Expect very long queues — many visitors go after midnight on New Year's Eve.

Tips / アドバイス
Go very early on January 1 (before 6:00 AM) or on January 2–3 to avoid peak crowds.
1月1日の早朝（6時前）か、1月2～3日に行けば混雑のピークを避けられます。
Dress warmly — early-January Tokyo is cold, especially waiting in line.
暖かく装いましょう。1月の東京は寒く、とくに行列では体感温度が下がります。
Buy a hamaya (demon-quelling arrow) or omamori as a New Year keepsake.
